<aside> 💼 My career started in IT on a biometric passport project, where I was in charge of customizing the operating system. I was surprised by how close it is to Bookbot – instead of photographing people, we take pictures of books, and fingerprint readers have been replaced by barcode scanners. In the startup for marketing attribution Roivenue, I had the opportunity to truly witness how having the right data assembled in the right way propels e-commerce businesses forward. Later, at Top4Sport, I experienced firsthand what it means to build a data warehouse and do BI for a company with over 100 e-shops in more than 40 countries.

Data Talk #113: Markéta Patáková (Knihobot) - Data Talk

What would you recommend to everyone who is interested in data?

The Emperor of All Maladies od Siddhartha Mukherjee, jen nečekejte happy end. Pro mě je to varovný příběh o tom, jak snadné je vidět v datech to, co chceme.

What qualities do you look for in your team members?

Without curiosity, it is hard to do data work well. This is especially true for in-house systems that lack tidy commercial documentation. I will always prefer someone imperfect but curious over a technically flawless person who isn't interested in figuring out how, why, and what it all means.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

Having the chance to be involved in everything. Throughout a single day, I meet with people regarding data related to cash flow, e-shop sales funnels, and the quality of delivered books. My position allows me to maintain a high-level view of the whole company and transform it into a data model that enables us to put things into context.
